Good morning! It's Erin Geisler.
Thanks to those of you who participated in our short-and-sweet summer membership drive last week. The majority of our funding comes from the community, and we can't do this without you.
Speaking of funding, we're in a wait-and-see moment as the U.S. Senate considers a White House-backed bill — recently passed by the House — that would rescind two years of public media funding. If it passes, KUT and KUTX could lose about $1.2 million annually. Congress has until July 18 to act. We'll keep you posted.
KUT News and KUTX 98.9 earned local, statewide and regional honors this spring for excellence in journalism, storytelling, production, music and more. Our news staff was honored for having the best health and radio reporters, and KUTX was awarded as "Best Radio Station."
From honoring stories about housing, healthcare, farmworker history and frog calls to celebrating music and our DJs, these accolades reflect the creativity and impact of KUT News, Texas Standard and KUTX in telling the stories of and celebrating Austin — and Texas.
And don't miss these podcast episodes from KUT & KUTX Studios.
🎧 ¡Vamos Verde! — Austin FC captain Ilie Sanchez began his career with hometown club F.C. Barcelona. In part one of this two-part interview, he shares life lessons and reflects on the importance of "context."
🎧 Pause/Play — With stagnant pay and little income from streaming, how do Austin musicians make a living? Artists like Sara L. Houser, Tribe Mafia's Carlos and Chinasa, and Carrie Rodriguez share how they've expanded what it means to work in music.
