Oof, how about this humidity, y'all? The smug South Carolinian in me usually scoffs at humidity related complaints, but I'll admit this weather has me wilting.
It wasn't the weather that had me wilting last night though. Blame L.C. Frank's dreamy cover of Prince's "I would Die 4 U" 😍.
Speaking of which, happy early birthday to Prince! Rick McNulty's annual Prince Party on Left of the Dial is happening tonight at 7 p.m. Promise, even if you're a Prince superfan, Rick always somehow manages to surprise with a banger I had never heard. Let alone the fact that it's been nearly 10 years Prince shed his mortal form, he's still got music to show us 💜.
Anyways, last night had me thinking ... The Drop-In may be the greatest summer concert series to grace our fair city maybe ... ever? Brownout, Superfónicos, L.C. Franke — and next up is
promqueen! We got it good here in ATX.
Have a great weekend,
P.S. We couldn't bring you these events and stories about music without our financial supporters. If you're already a member, thank you. If you'd like to become one, here's how to donate and support KUTX.
If you saw them at Scholz Garten during this year's SXSW, you already know our June Artist of the Month has a special alchemy. With production from Beau Bedford, whose worked with other country and country-adjacent luminaries like Leon Bridges and Orville Peck, Chaparelle recalls the melodies, storytelling and twang of country music greatest eras — with a modern lyricism.
Hear it for yourself in their recent Studio 1A performance, and stay tuned for guest DJ sets and more from Chaparelle later this month!
It's Pride Month and we're spotlighting queer Austin musicians of today and the legends who paved the way. This year, we're kicking off June by singing the much deserved praises of Madison Baker from Next of Kin!
