What's up, humans? Ryan Wen here, still sticky from the Studio 1A performance I just hosted with Tear Dungeon. If you haven't seen them perform, well,
go check them out next Saturday at Radio/East. Maybe bring a raincoat. Or a poncho.
Suffice to say, I think our concert club will remember that show for the rest of their lives.
The Drop-In returns this coming Thursday for yet another great lineup featuring Geto Gala, Blackchyl and a DJ set from our very own Confucius Jones.
The hottest month of the year has indeed arrived, but that's why we picked an incredibly cool Artist of the Month for August. (The editor of this newsletter, Chase, firmly believes the hottest month is actually September.)
Grace Sorensen is fresh off the release of her debut full-length BLUEPRINT but she already won our hearts the first time we heard her on BLK ODYSSY’s BLK VINTAGE. We'll have performance videos, interviews and more in the coming weeks to win you over too — unless you're already a super fan like us.
Stay cool out there,
P.S. You might have heard we recently loss our federal funding. It costs money to put these cool songs on the air, so please donate and support KUTX so we can keep bringing you the best tunes out there.
Exploded Drawing – founded by Butcher Bear and KUTX host Soundfounder returns TONIGHT for it's 65th season.
If you're not familiar, Soundfounder and Butcher Bear have been put on this showcase for over 15 years. It's truly a pillar of the electronic music community in Austin. Not only has it provided a space for up and coming ATX musicians, but also magnetized many big names from outside the state — and tonight is no different!
Tonight's headliner, Daedelus, has been a staple in the indie electronic world since the early 2000s, and worked with the people like MF DOOM, Madlib, Flying Lotus and DJ Shadow. He's also a faculty member at Berklee College of Music's Electronic Production Department.
He's awesome to say the least.
Don't sleep on the other artists either. Every single Exploded Drawing I've gone to has introduced me to someone new and exciting in the Texas electronic music world.
Plus dadaLab is just a cool place to hang out. And it's only $5. What's not to like?!
A few days before their SLUDGEcontent EP release show last weekend, our July Artist of the Month J'cuuzi gave our concert club a performance to remember.
In August 1935 at the Cinderella Roof Dance Hall, Bob Wills walked into Al Stricklin’s life looking for a piano player. Now, Wills may be the king of Western Swing, but Al Stricklin brought the swing to the Texas Playboys.
The latest episode features 6 finalists from every end of the genre spectrum. There were songs with an electronic lean, classic singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar, eclectic circus sounds, and dreamy transcendent new wave vibes.
