What's up humans? It's about a billion degrees outside, but every day we inch closer to those blissful Austin autumn days! Oh, to frolic amidst our fair city without immediate heat-related illnesses; what a dream.
Sure, we're supposed to get some respite with some rain and cooler weather over the weekend, but you can't blame me if I don't always believe the forecast. The only thing you can truly count on here in ATX is an endless supply of live music, and that is especially true this month.
P.S. We couldn't bring you these events and stories about music without our financial supporters. If you're already a member, thank you. If you'd like to become one, here's how to donate and support KUTX.
The first time I heard The Point was a chance encounter a few years ago. I was walking to my car after work and my friend who works the door at the Hole in the Wall yelled at me from the other side of Guadalupe St. to come check out this band. He was like, "I don't know they're like punk rock afro-beat something!"
It should go without saying, but the next day I wouldn't shut up about the show and harassed everyone in the office into listening to them.
Here we are a few years later and The Point has finally received the attention they deserve. They're about to drop the deluxe edition of their sophomore record Maldito Animal (produced by Beto Martinez of Grupo Fantasma, Caramelo Haze and
Brownout). Plus, they've been invited to play both Levitation and Austin City Limits Festival at the end of the month!
Stay tuned for more from The Point later this month.
Before Patsy Cline and Wanda Jackson, there was Charline Arthur, but Arthur had a reputation as a strong-willed, assertive woman in an industry that checked the ambitions of such artists, and her racy lyrical innuendos didn’t go over well in the 1950s.
